Nawaka 2026 international newsletter |
| Over the next coming months we will send out a couple of newsletters to inform you about topics that we had questions about, or topics we think will be useful, either because of practicality or because of getting involved with the theme and activities. | ||
Theme: Van eigen bodem“van eigen bodem” can be translated as homegrown, but we’re not solely talking about vegetables and flowers. What about a typical sound (music) or dance? We want to show you all the things we think are unique in our country (architecture, snacks, the possibility of living in reclaimed land/polders). What is homegrown to you? We love to learn what is typical for your country and what makes your country special. More about the theme and the protagonists will come to you soon. |

Buddy GroupsAs we speak we are in the final stages of completing the subcamps. They are based on the region where the group is based, age, experience and size of the group, so each subcamp has their own identity.International groups are placed in the subcamps of their buddy groups. Buddy groups are able to provide a big part of the items international groups are not able to bring. Apart from that, buddy groups have enough experience to be able to take international participants along in the games and competitions. In case you’ve requested anything that is linked to buddy groups then we have taken that into account. |
NecessitiesAt camps like Nawaka groups are required to bring their own gear like it was a camp they had organised themselves. For international groups that can be quite a hassle as not everything can be taken on board a plane or ferry. We have already put cooking gas and fire extinguishers on our list. What kind of items are you not able to bring? This also includes boats, canoes and such as we also need that information to find the right buddy group for you. |
Administration and informationA new administration system is being implemented at our NSO. Likely it won’t be possible for you to enter all the required information via this system. We are working on a way to get all the necessary information so everything will run smoothly during Nawaka. |
Did you know? The country is known by both The Netherlands and Holland, but in fact Holland is just a part of the Netherlands. It started in the Golden Age, when the Dutch had a big fleet sailing from Amsterdam.Perhaps it was just shorter, perhaps it was easier to pronounce, but nowadays more people use the name Holland, rather than the Netherlands, even though it is just the north-west part of the country. Nawaka will be held in the newest province of the Netherlands and it’s all polder area / reclaimed land. It is also the biggest artificial island in the world. At the estate you can find a land post where you can see where the water would have been if it was still part of the “Zuiderzee”. |
